Reggae in Fashion

Reggae artists are inspiring fashion.

Greetings Superstars!

I just read about this fashion company called Albino & Preto that does collabs and capsule collections of streetwear and martial arts attire. What does this have to do with reggae music? Not much, except one of their latest efforts “Celebrates Reggae Culture With Bob Marley Capsule Collection.”

How do you feel about that?

I guess I wish I knew more about this company and what they have to do with reggae culture. Here’s what I found: Albino & Preto has been around since 2011 and they manufacture collectible Jiu Jitsu uniforms and related lifestyle fashion.

So did Marley practice Jiu Jitsu? I feel in my bones that the answer is yes, but haven’t found any evidence. However, I did find links of his son, Ziggy, doing it. If anyone out there knows more about this topic, please leave a comment.

This has me thinking about reggae and fashion. From the stage to the yard, here are three reggae stars inspiring amazing looks.

Diana King

Jamaican reggae fusion star Diana King’s style is cool and effortless. Check out her androgynous look in the video for “Shy Guy.”

Koffee

With jams like “Burning,” “Raggamuffin,” and “Toast,” young Jamaican dynamo Koffee is already a Grammy winner. Global sensations have to keep it comfortable, and Koffee’s cool layers in vibrant hues are goals.

KES

KES’s style is effortless. Images from Billboard.com and Kestheband.com, repsectively.

Soca star KES from Trinidad & Tobago is just as stylish in the Caribbean heat as on a city street. His hat work is on pointe, and he’s great at mixing patterns by keeping to a neutral palette.

As the summer winds down—whether you’re exploring in layers or braving tropical heat—I hope your week is filled with inspiration when you look at the cool styles on the people around you.
