3 Prompts to Grease Your Writing Wheels

3 Prompts to Grease Your Writing Wheels

How you can keep your imagination limber throughout busy seasons.

My name is Naomi Shibles and I’m here to tell you Why I Need This Author Gig.

With each episode, I’ll share a little bit about my writing journey, sprinkled with some anecdotes so that we can share a laugh.

In this episode, I cover:

  • Celebrating the person who makes it special

  • How it’s hard to write during the holidays

  • A little imagination lubrication

As much as I love this season, it comes with a lot of responsibility—especially if you have little ones in your life. Someone has to put up the lights, oversee shipping & receiving in the age of Amazon, navigate social logistics, procure the baked goods, and organize the good cheer. It doesn’t just happen.

I wager that the person in your household who makes it special is you.

The upside: You are very wonderful.

The downside: It doesn’t leave much time for writing.

In the spirit of the season, I’m here to offer some help. What better way to get the fingers flying than by limbering up with some writing prompts?

Quickly! You don’t have much time to yourself:

  1. You are a dragon padding through a damp cave that doesn’t belong to you. The tip of your tail is throbbing, but you can ignore the pain because you’ve been waiting to see what’s at the end of this cave for fifty years. A pinprick of light appears in the darkness. Your dragon eyes shift, trying to see what it is. As you get closer, you realize that there is an exit and the pinprick is daylight. You near the opening, breathing deeply to remain in control, and step out into… [dot dot dot]

  2. A wolf plunges into an icy river and emerges with a fish in its mouth. The wolf drops the fish on the snowy embankment and shakes its fur dry. The fish wriggles in the snow, unable to move. The wolf lowers its snoot to the fish, jowls dripping, and gives it a kiss. Glittering smoke encircles them both and the fish turns into a gorgeous human with flowing ebony hair. They gaze down at the wolf and…

  3. A bunny leaves a trail of paw prints in the snow as it hops between snow-covered fir trees gleaming with glass ornaments. Except the prints don’t look like they were made by bunny paws. They are shaped like dollar signs…

There you have it, 3 prompts to grease your imagination wheels. I hope they lead you to fun places. And I wish you a peaceful week knowing that everything will fall into place as long as we enjoy ourselves along the way.

Season’s greetings, my friends!
